The Future of Mayhem: Vendor Changes

Greetings Colonists,

In our previous updates on the future of Mayhem, we talked about some of the upcoming short term changes to the Mayhem Format, including changes to the instances, how tokens are obtained, and detaching Resource Events from the Mayhem format.

In this update, we want to share with you our plans for the longer term, in particular in regards to the vendor.

Sustainability

One of the biggest challenges faced by the current setup of the Mayhem Event format lies with the vendor. Whilst unlimited items provide a great incentive and a valuable reward for players, it isn't without issue.

In short, the faucet of tokens into the economy has been increased, participation in the format has also been very high, and the vendor has remained primarily used for the purpose of obtaining high-end UL items. This combined with expectations for restocks of these items has created a cycle which brings UL items into the game at an unsustainable rate - and frustration from players expecting and waiting for said items to be stocked.

Therefore, our plan is to remove UL items entirely from the vendor once stock is depleted, replacing them with exceptional, limited versions, and craftable exceptional limited versions that consume items from the economy. These “exceptional” style items provide long lasting items, but items that will ultimately expire with use. We believe that this still provides meaningful incentive for many players to participate, whilst ensuring UL items do not become more overabundant.

It is not lost on us that this is a very fundamental change, but we hope that you understand the necessity and reasoning behind it. Our goal is to set the economy within Entropia on the right path and create a sustainable Mayhem Format, and this requires us to take strong decisions for the long term betterment of players, the economy and game.

Of course we understand that such a drastic shift must be done in as fair a way as possible, whilst also ensuring we make this shift sooner rather than later. As such, our plan for how we will execute this is as follows.

Process of Change and Restock

While we will be moving forward with a different model for the vendor, we will make both normal and rare Mayhem Tokens tradable for a fixed period to allow players agency in this transitional period.

In addition to this, we will also provide a final restock of some unlimited items at the end of this period. However, once these items, and existing UL stock has been depleted, their listings will be removed from the vendor.

Our hope is that this process will give players agency regarding the vendor and future of Mayhem. The process and dates will be as follows:

  1. Between 29th April and 27th May, tokens will temporarily be made tradeable. This will allow a grace period for players to offload/buy up tokens if they feel it is in their best interest with the changes going forward

  2. In the week directly following the end of this period, we will post a notice detailing the days and times when vendor restocking will take place, accounting for players of different timezones.

We know that these changes will have a significant impact on players in many different ways. Our aim with this update is to provide transparency and certainty in this transitional period. We believe that this is the way forward for a fundamentally sustainable format.

We will continue to look at feedback you all provide to help inform any future changes or adjustments.

Thank you for your continued passion and love for Entropia Universe.

Hello Entropians,

In February, we introduced the concept of CelestAI and how we are advancing and reshaping the balancing and development of Entropia Universe's economy. Today, we're excited to share more about some major strides we've made since then.

Building on the Foundation

In our previous update, we discussed why traditional balancing methods could no longer keep pace with Entropia's complexity. We've since made several foundational steps of progress toward implementing CelestAI to bridge that gap.

Key Advancements

  • Comprehensive Data Integration: CelestAI now connects previously siloed information – linking item parameters, market transactions, player activities, and additional complex systems into a single unified framework. This gives us, for the first time, a truly holistic view of our economy.
  • Code-Data Cross-Analysis: CelestAI can now analyze relationships between our in-game code and our economic parameters. This means it can understand not just what an item or parameter does now, but also how it operates directly inside the game.
  • Historical Pattern Recognition: The system can identify how items have evolved throughout their lifecycle, revealing patterns that help us predict how future changes might impact their utility and value.
  • Predictive Modeling: We can now simulate potential economic outcomes with higher accuracy before implementing changes, dramatically reducing the risk of unintended consequences.
  • Real-Time Feedback Integration: CelestAI daily analyzes player feedback across forums and social platforms, ensuring community concerns are systematically captured and considered in our balancing and core decisionmaking.

Why This Matters for You

With all these mentioned systems combined, CelestAI is increasingly able to provide sophisticated guidance on how changes to loot, items, or other in-game factors will ripple through the Entropia Universe economy. What was previously a less informed decision, will now have strong data to back up any change.

This translates into:

  • Targeted Balancing: When balance adjustments are needed, they'll be more precise and targeted, minimizing disruption to the broader economy while addressing specific issues.
  • Economic Flows: New content will integrate more seamlessly with existing systems than before, as we can better anticipate economic impacts before implementation.
  • Faster Adaptation: Market fluctuations can be addressed more promptly, with a clearer understanding of root causes and potential solutions.
  • Enhanced Player Feedback Integration: Your feedback will have greater impact, as CelestAI helps identify common concerns across thousands of player communications that might otherwise be missed.

Ongoing Research and Next Steps

While these developments are exciting, CelestAI is still in active development. We're continuing to refine its algorithms, integrate more data sources, and build CelestAI to scale with every major AI intelligence leap.

Our vision is a truly living, breathing economy, one that reacts instantly to in-game changes and player actions, and we're committed to ensuring that these improvements directly benefit you, our community.

Stay Tuned

Over the coming weeks, we'll share additional milestones, including examples of our interactions with CelestAI, giving you a peek into how it works. We appreciate your patience and enthusiasm as we take this monumental step toward a more vibrant and sustainable Entropia Universe.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

Best regards,

Pre-Release Notes: Introducing the Hunters

As part of our ongoing updates to the AI Daily missions, we are introducing three new immersive mission givers.

The goal we have set out to achieve with the new mission givers is primarily focusing on making sure that we can offer the same type of missions that we have done previously to lower level players.

We have strategically located them where most of our new players start off on Calypso. However, they will still be able to be picked up by all levels of players.

We are upgrading all our models to the newest and smartest models out there and will yield a much higher quality and accuracy to perform its various tasks and responses. In addition we have tried to make sure the characters act less “woke” but still prefer to be engaged with.

The long-term memory of the characters have also been addressed as we noticed that they have not been great at remembering or persisting memory for long periods of time. This should now be noticeable - especially if you explicitly ask for them to remember something.

Alice Laurent

Location: Camp Icarus

Occupation: Hunter

Personality: Alice is a tough, no-nonsense warrior with a hammer obsession, fierce loyalty, and unwavering justice.

Boris

Location: South Swamp Camp

Occupation: Hunter

Personality: Boris is a mysterious, poetic loner, distrustful yet just, deeply connected to Calypso’s wilderness.

Lauren Ashford

Location: Half Moon Bay

Occupation: Hunter

Personality: Lauren is a nervous yet passionate chatterbox, highly observant, endearingly anxious, and obsessed with Sabakuma.

Prepare to meet the Hunters, take on their missions, and more interesting interactions. Full release notes dropping today, stay tuned!

Greetings Entropians,

As we discussed in our previous statement, we are reviewing the Mayhem event format to create something more sustainable for the game and playerbase. With this, we remain committed to being transparent about these changes, and why we are making them.

As previously stated, shaping a way forward for Mayhem will include both short and long term changes, however, we are pleased to announce the following changes.

Firstly, we can confirm that there will be no further Resource Mayhem Events tied to the Mayhem Format. Any future “Resource” style events will be their own distinct event without Mayhem Tokens as a reward.

Whilst we believe that there is much merit in the format of the Resource Event - and was largely popular - tying it to the existing Mayhem Tokens was not the best way to implement this. We will take some time to think how we can bring the format back in its own way in the future.

Secondly, for the upcoming Easter Mayhem, we will be making the following changes:

  1. In order to promote active and engaging gameplay within the Mayhem Instance we will be replacing Annihilation with the “Assault” style format we trialled in Summer Mayhem. This should make things more fair for all players participating in Mayhem.
  2. For similar reasons, and in order to reduce the overall faucet of Tokens into the economy we will be removing Mayhem Tokens as a drop from Mayhem Creatures. You will still be able to obtain Tokens through the Mayhem Missions.
  3. We will be adding more interesting and varied loot to the Mayhem Creatures themselves based on the feedback received from players. This should make hunting these creatures more rewarding in itself beyond getting rewards from the missions.
  4. Lastly we will be shortening the length of the Easter Mayhem to Two Weeks to keep the event focused and challenging

We also want to thank you all for all of the feedback you have provided, the changes you see above are directly influenced by the suggestions and sentiments expressed by the community.

We will continue to review the format and further changes, which we will of course communicate to you all.

Thank you all for your continued support and passion for Entropia, that makes our game so great.

Hello Entropia Universe Community,

I am Magnus Ryme, CTO for Entropia Universe. The development team and I would like to keep you informed as follows:

We understand that many of you are concerned about our recent content updates, especially regarding items, loot, and the overall economy—hereafter referred to as “Balancing.”

Commitment to Core Balancing

We’re pleased to inform you that the majority of our software engineers are laser-focused on addressing these core issues, and we are committed to making this central part of the game more engaging going forward. We fully recognize that for most players, these aspects are what make Entropia Universe so unique and exciting.

Why It’s So Complex

Over the more than 20 years of continuous operation, an enormous number of items have been introduced into the game. Each comes with multiple parameters—damage, deterioration, hit rate, damage type, etc.—plus factors like loot lists, drop rates, TT value, market value, skill effects, and more. When you add in other game mechanics and the fact that Entropia Universe has a real-cash economy, balancing becomes incredibly intricate.

Frankly, it isn’t humanly possible to manage this complexity effectively with our older tools.

Enter CelestAI

We’ve been working diligently to curate 20 years’ worth of data to train what we call “CelestAI,” a high-level artificial intelligence system composed of multiple AI agents, all managed by a top-level AI model. Initially, CelestAI will assist us in balancing the game to ensure a more engaging and rewarding experience.

We want to work smart by leveraging cutting-edge technology to tackle these challenges. Because this is such a significant undertaking, we’re being meticulous in our approach. We still have work to do before we can reveal more details; however, please know we are fully committed to this goal.

Ongoing Updates and Additional Improvements

In addition to balancing loot and items, we’re also actively addressing other systems that need attention. Of course, not all of our programmers can work on CelestAI simultaneously, so we continue to deliver new content on a quarterly basis. Rest assured, these releases won’t detract from our primary commitment to improving the game’s most critical systems.

We truly appreciate your feedback and the passion you have for Entropia Universe. We’re listening closely and working hard to bring you the improvements you deserve and we ask for your continued patience and understanding as we implement these changes. Your support and constructive input are invaluable in our mission to deliver a better experience for everyone.

Thank you for being part of our community.

Sincerely,
Magnus Ryme and The Entropia Universe Development Team

Upcoming Immersive Missions

We're excited to announce the upcoming advancements in Entropia Universe, which will bring even more dynamic and immersive experiences to your gameplay with our Immersive AI Characters. With the forthcoming update, it will be possible to get daily missions from five new NPCs.

Entropia Universe is set to become one of the first games in the world to achieve this level of complexity with generative missions. The new characters are uniquely equipped to generate and offer dynamic hunting missions every 24 hours, making it possible to enjoy new and unique missions every day you log in.

These fresh challenges and rewards will provide diverse hunting adventures tailored toward each character's location. What sets this upcoming new advancement apart is the way you will be able to converse with a character in real-time and naturally end up on a new quest without clicking through the same static dialogue every single day.

These hunting missions offered by these characters will also be trackable and manageable through the mission log interface and the NPCs' own dialogue windows, detailing quest objectives and countdown timers for your missions.

Join us as we deep-dive into these characters' stories and personalities, and where you can find them on your endeavors on Planet Calypso.

The Stories Yet to Be Written

As you explore the new features and characters of Entropia Universe, prepare to delve deep into the stories of these different personalities. A perfect example is Leia Cassidy, a central figure in the unfolding narrative of our latest update.

The night air is thick with the scent of rain-soaked metal and scorched earth as you step into Fort Troy’s outer perimeter. The radar post hums softly overhead, scanning the horizon for movement. Beneath it, standing with arms crossed and eyes fixed on the treeline, Leia Cassidy watches.

She’s not tense, not exactly—but there’s a stillness to her, the kind that comes with knowing something’s off. When she finally acknowledges you, it’s with a slow turn of her head, a smirk just barely curving her lips.

"Figured you’d notice it too," she murmurs, nodding towards the dark expanse beyond the walls. "They’re getting bolder. Closer. Makes you wonder if they know something we don’t."

A moment of silence lingers between you, broken only by the distant choir of nocturnal insects. Then, she exhales, tilting her head slightly, as if mulling something over.

"A little… reduction in numbers might do us some good. Are you up for it?"

Your mission log flickers—"Cull the Encroaching Threat"—tasking you with thinning out the growing presence beyond the walls.

Leia pushes off the post, rolling a knife idly between her fingers.

"Take care out there. And if you see anything… strange?" She pauses, amusement laced in her voice, but her eyes remain unreadable.

"Well. You’ll let me know, won’t you?"

The flickering lights of Fort Troy cast long shadows as you step beyond its safety, the wilderness stretching before you like a breathing, watching thing. Whatever’s been pushing closer, tonight, you push back.

Character Spotlights

The frontier doesn’t belong to the weak. It belongs to those who carve their names into the dust and steel of Entropia. These five, Bobby, Hanna, Hans, Leia, and Thorleif, are more than just faces in the crowd. They are the gatekeepers of survival, the ones who stand at the edge of civilization and ensure that, no matter how dangerous the universe becomes, there will always be people willing to fight, fix, and forge ahead.

And as for you? Well, you’re just another traveler in their world. But stick around long enough, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll become part of their story too.

Bobby - The Conspiracy Engineer

New Treasure Island's hangar is more than just a place for ships; it's Bobby’s sanctuary, a mix of high-tech repairs and deep-space conspiracies. Once an eager student of alien biology, he traded his research for wrenches and circuit boards, ensuring that no vessel left his dock in less-than-perfect condition. He’s eccentric, enthusiastic, and perhaps too obsessed with the idea that "they" are watching.

He might rant about strange energy signatures, but he’s also the first to hand out a task to deal with rogue bots or repair vital ship components. Whether he’s right about his theories or not, well, that’s for the universe to decide.

Location: New Treasure Island main hangar inside the main building near the bar

Hanna Hendrix - The Explosive Enthusiast

BOOM! That’s the sound of Hanna Hendrix arriving on the scene. Stationed at Jameson’s Reach, she’s a soldier who finally got what she wanted, combat. Eager, fearless, and always ready to test a new weapon, she sees every battle as a new opportunity to bring the heat.

Her enthusiasm for destruction is only matched by her cheerful attitude. If she hands you a mission, expect it to involve something that goes out in flames. And if you hesitate, don’t worry, Hanna has enough energy for both of you.

Location: Triton Island by the helicopter at Jamesons Reach

Hans Kaufman - The Old Guard of the Hangar

Once, he was a pilot. Once, he fought against rogue AI and mechanical abominations in deep space. Now, Hans Kaufman runs the spaceship hangar on New Treasure Island, overseeing its operations with quiet authority. He’s the man you go to if you need work and the one who ensures order in a place where chaos often reigns.

Strict, responsible, and always calm, Hans doesn’t waste words. He doesn’t need to. If he tells you there’s a job to do, whether it’s clearing out rogue bots or dealing with wildlife, you can bet it’s serious.

Location: New Treasure Island main hangar, visible from the teleporter by the entrance to the hangar interior

Leia Cassidy - The Shadow in the Wilds

The bounty hunter walks with slow, deliberate steps. Leia Cassidy doesn’t speak much, but when she does, her words carry a weight that’s hard to ignore. Growing up in the wilderness, she learned to track and hunt anything that breathes, or beeps. Now, she deals in danger, taking contracts on everything from rogue machines to outlaws who made the mistake of thinking they could disappear into the wild.

Is she joking? Is she serious? It’s hard to tell, and that’s exactly how she likes it. If Leia asks for a favor, you should think twice before saying no.

Location: Fort Troy under the big radar dish near the service centre

Thorleif Schtoll - The Watcher of Fort Troy

The walls of Fort Troy are strong, but they wouldn’t mean anything without the people guarding them. Thorleif Schtoll is one of those people. An experienced soldier turned security officer, he once fought on the frontlines. Now, he ensures that nothing, robots, raiders, or creatures of the wasteland, threatens the safety of the settlement.

He speaks calmly, with the weight of experience behind every word. No wasted breath, no unnecessary talk, just the wisdom of a man who has seen enough battles to know that those who rush don’t last long. If he tells you to keep your eyes peeled, you should listen.

Location: Fort Troy up on the wall near the service centre

We're thrilled to roll out these new features in an upcoming update and can't wait to see how they transform your adventures. Stay tuned for future updates as we expand and enrich Entropia Universe with AI!

New Space Features

Space Mining, Mining Ship, Interplanetary Teleportation, and more

Space Mining

A groundbreaking new feature has arrived! Space mining will open up many new opportunities, including new skills and professions you can develop.

What exactly is space mining?
Space mining involves extracting valuable materials from asteroids floating in space. These materials can be sold as they are, utilized in crafting, or used to purchase items at Space Mining Terminals available at any space station.

Your ship will need Mining Lasers to start mining in space. As described below, Mining Lasers come in different varieties.

Mining Lasers
All spaceships can mine using Mining Lasers, which are available in Attached and Mounted models.

The attached versions of Mining Lasers can only be used by smaller non-capital ships. Mounted versions can be used by any ship with gunner seats.

View the table below for general guidelines on whether your ship allows for mounted or attached mining lasers.

Spaceship Type Attached Mining Laser Mounted Mining Laser
Prospector (Mining Ship) No 8
Mothership No 4
Pioneer (Mining Ship) 1 2
Privateer No 2
Firebird 1 1
Quad-Wing 1 1
Sleipnir 1 1

The mining lasers use either Universal Ammo or Explosive Projectiles as ammunition.

The How-To
Purchase or craft your Mining Lasers for your ship and set off to locate asteroids you wish to mine. You will be able to find mining lasers and mining laser blueprints in the Space Mining Terminals.

Asteroids can be found around planets and the Howling Mine. Pay attention to the asteroid's appearance, as different types contain different materials. Arrows will be visible above any minable asteroids. Use the mining laser to destroy the asteroids and obtain the different minerals. When you successfully destroy the asteroid, the minerals will automatically end up in your inventory.

Each space station is equipped with Tailing Recycle Stations, which you can use to process your mined materials and obtain valuable minerals. To process the materials, you will need Recycling Scrips.

Tips

  • Some Mining Skills gained from planetary mining positively affect Professions used in Space Mining
  • There are High-Powered Mining Lasers that can only be used on the Pioneer and Prospector. "View Information" on the Mining Laser and check under "Power Rating" to find relevant details
  • Pay attention to whether your ship needs Attached or Mounted lasers
  • Weaker mining lasers cannot impact larger asteroids, so ensure you’re equipped with the correct equipment before embarking on your mining endeavor
  • Minable asteroids can be found in Safe Zones, PVP, and lootable PVP

New Space Mining Terminal
All Space Stations just got an addition—a Space Mining Terminal specialized for Space Mining. This terminal offers Basic variants of Space Mining Lasers, Mining Laser Blueprints, Teleportation Token Blueprints, Recycling Scrip Blueprints, and a sell and recycle tab.

You can find the Space Mining Terminals at the same location as the Trade, Recycle, and Storage terminals at any Space Stations.

Genesis Star Offers Rewards
Genesis Star personnel offer a set of daily space hunting and mining missions at all Space Stations. Search them out, as they offer nice rewards for a helping hand.

Pioneer Mining Ship

Shipwright Shoal in Howling Mine has a mission for you - complete it, and he will offer you a Pioneer Mining Ship (L). Similar in size to the Quad-Wing and Sleipner, the Pioneer is the perfect choice for small-scale operations and efficient space miners.

This Mining Ship is a 3-seater and a smaller version of the Prospector. Each passenger in the Pioneer can choose to equip either a Mounted Mining Laser or a Mounted Defensive Weapon. The Mounted Defensive Weapon is new of its kind, and only the Pioneer can wield it. You discover the Blueprint of this weapon by crafting.

Interplanetary Teleportation

Recent upgrades to the space station teleportation network have opened this once very limited system for new uses. In addition to the already existing ability to teleport to a planet from the space station orbiting it, it will now be possible to teleport between different space stations across the frontier.

However, due to the incredible energy costs involved in safely moving matter such great distances, there will be some limitations on using this new infrastructure. Users will be required to pay a fee of 15 Teleportation Tokens with each use, and you will only be able to carry up to 150 kg in your inventory to be able to use the interplanetary teleportation system.

The new update to the teleportation network has also made travel from space stations to the planets they orbit free of charge. However, teleportation directly from a planet's surface to a space station is still impossible.

Updated Look And Map Zones

Improved Visibility
When traveling in space, you will notice that the universe is brighter and more colorful than before. This will also make it easier for you to spot enemies, ships, and asteroids.

Mining Zones
The closest area around planets now includes asteroid belts, an easy-to-spot landmark for you to find minable asteroids. Most of the asteroid belts are situated in non-lootable PVP zones, except for the area around the Howling Mine, which is lootable PVP. However, each space station includes a safe zone without PVP, and the area allows for safe exploration of both hunting and mining.

Navigation Relay Beacons
Navigation Relay Beacons are repositioned into new locations near lootable PVP areas. These Beacons now feature pinned map locations for ease of access. More than just a landmark for lootable PVP, the Space Pirates use these beacons to ambush capital ships.

Outlaw Zones
Shipwrecks mark a new zone called the Outlaw Zone. These zones can be discovered and registered on your map. Make sure to explore and circulate the area of the ship to add these zones to your space map successfully. Once discovered, these Zones can be used for warping. But be careful; the edges of the zones crawl with pirates ready to jump your ship.

Hunting Grounds
These areas in the universe are populated with native space creatures.

Space Pirates

With space opening up to further trade and resource extraction, the Federal Empire has issued a general warning about space pirate activity along the frontier.

Many of these pirates were previously retained as privateers by megacorporations invested in the colonies to help limit smuggling and other illegal trade by non-chartered companies. However, when the practice was outlawed due to recurring violations of codes, including an attack on an Imperial diplomatic vessel, a large number of crews seized control of their ships and continued preying on ships rather than become unemployed.

Their numbers have since grown further, and there are even rumors that some of them have established bases and started manufacturing their own ships using the resources pillaged from unwary travelers.

Beware of these pirates as you travel through space, as they are opportunists and will attack when given the chance.

Your Space Mining Adventure Awaits!

We hope you enjoy starting your space mining adventure in Entropia Universe. If you have any questions or wish to share your experiences and strategies about space mining, we invite you to join the discussion on our forum.

Check out the release notes here for the full list of features for this release.

The Howling Mine has received a complete overhaul to become the new central hub for space, filled with vibrant personalities, missions, content, and more. It is also situated in an ideal location near some of the most interesting locations in space.

When you arrive at the Howling Mine Station, you will be able to access the new Space Mining Terminal and transfer over to the brand-new Howling Mine interior. This area has been reimagined and rebuilt from top to bottom, and the new Club Neverdie has its doors wide open as your new party destination!

Among the many catwalks and passageways of this modernized industrial station, you will be able to find a variety of missions suitable for any aspiring asteroid miners, space creature hunters, and even combat pilots:

  • The new Genesis Star Contract Terminal provides you with a collection of daily missions for both space hunting and space mining - offering interesting rewards for completion, including blueprints.
  • Shipwright Shoal allows you to build your own Pioneer mining ship, assuming you can offer the materials necessary to craft the necessary parts.
  • The Contractor provides further daily missions, including ones for daring hunters willing to take on what lurks deep in the mine. The locals gossip about a strange creature known as the Shifter.
  • The Employer provides a new Job System, promising to give new and old players alike a way to truly sustain themselves while hunting and gaining skills in the Howling Mine.

Just be careful with your footing while exploring! Not all platforms have railings, and some metal surfaces can get slippery as ship mechanics track grease in. A fall could be dangerous, and you could easily end up seriously injured, even breaking your neck.

For those looking to make this new space hub their long-term home or next business venture, the Howling Mine will soon offer a range of brand-new apartments and shops. Stay tuned for more information on how you can secure your spot.
